Unfortunately, the 6 month rainy reason causes extreme damage to mud brick built compounds in The Gambia.

One way PIFTA has helped is the donation of cement based blocks that withstand the rain, for the rebuilding of Lamin Suawaneh's compound. Lamin, a dedicated young man that PIFTA helped kickstart his barbing and game console business, has been eager to rebuild their compound to be able to look after his epileptic mother.  However, she is currently living away from Lamin with relatives as their mud brick compound in which they were living was destroyed by the heavy rains. Any profit Lamin earns helped him begin work on rebuilding their compound, so his mother can return. PIFTA donated enough to help him make some cement based blocks which will withstand the rain. We were pleased to see that Lamin begun straight away. Nothing stops this man!
